Free Rice.com Fact Practice

We are introducing students to a website called FreeRice.com where students can practice math facts and answer trivia questions in a variety of subjects. What makes this website special and unique is that correct answers translate into rice that is actually donated to families in need around the world. As students answer questions correctly, they will see the rice collecting on the screen at the rate of 10 grains of rice per correct answer. When students answer questions incorrectly, the correct answer is shown and is woven back into the series of questions for reinforcement. In order to access free rice, students should follow these steps: http://freerice.com/#/basic-math-pre-algebra/16870 1. Go to freerice.com. In the top right hand corner, click in the word login. 2. For username, type in yestorice. To make it easy, we kept the password the same: yestorice. 3. Once on the site, look for the menu at the top of the screen and click on the word subjects. Here, you will find the list of all the subjects in which students can answer questions. Select the subject you want by clicking on it (ie. under math, click on basic math), and it will bring you directly to the first question. 4. A few tips to keep in mind: • You will find that the questions are leveled, and they start on level one. • At any time, students may either change the level of their questions by clicking on change level, or to automatically return to level one, students click restart (in the green box below the question). • If students click on my account, located in the menu bar at the top of the screen, they will be able to track rice earned by the group yestorice which includes all participating YES and Rowe students. • Parents and students are encouraged to explore interesting and relevant facts on this aesthetically pleasing site. We are encouraging students to take advantage of this opportunity to keep their skills sharp and to make a difference in the fight against world hunger.
